Acceptability and Feasibility

Several studies have documented the acceptability and feasibility of the Talking Touchscreen (TT) / la Pantalla Parlanchina (PP). The initial development and validation studies are described here.

People with cancer receiving care at several cancer care centers in the Chicago area (n=420) (Hahn et al., 2004Hahn et al., 2007) :

    •  nearly all low literacy (97%) and high literacy (98%) patients reported that it was easy or very easy to use the touchscreen
    • the majority (60%) of low and high literacy patients preferred using the touchscreen over other alternatives (interviewer or no preference)
    • several people commented on the usefulness of the multimedia approach:
      • Hearing it and reading it helps.
      • [The sound] helps you concentrate better.
      • Gives you more privacy.
