Acceptability and Feasibility
Several studies have documented the acceptability and feasibility of the Talking Touchscreen (TT) / la Pantalla Parlanchina (PP). The initial development and validation studies are described here.
English
People with cancer receiving care at several cancer care centers in the Chicago area (n=420) (Hahn et al., 2004; Hahn et al., 2007) :
- nearly all low literacy (97%) and high literacy (98%) patients reported that it was easy or very easy to use the touchscreen
- the majority (60%) of low and high literacy patients preferred using the touchscreen over other alternatives (interviewer or no preference)
- several people commented on the usefulness of the multimedia approach:
- Hearing it and reading it helps.
- [The sound] helps you concentrate better.
- Gives you more privacy.

- nearly all low literacy (96%) and high literacy (99%) patients reported that it was easy or very easy to use the touchscreen
- nearly all (93%) patients said they would be willing to complete surveys on the PP when they visit the doctor in the future
- several people commented on the usefulness of the multimedia approach (translated from Spanish):
- Easy to use. Good for patients who have reading problems.
- It gives you more privacy.
- You don’t have to rush to answer questions.
- It’s a good way to collect patient information.
